During his presidency, George W. Bush was famous for his many faux pas. From stumbling over basic words in the English language, to altering sentences so they barely made sense, former President Bush is a laughing stock so often, it’s usually pretty hard to take him seriously. Enter his latest scandal: Shirtwipegate.

Last Monday, Presidents Bush and Clinton traveled to Haiti to meet with survivors. While the two were walking through a survivors camp, shaking hands and talking with people, it looks as though after a string of handshakes, Bush reaches over and wipes his dirty, sweaty hand on the back of Clinton’s shirt.

There is some question as to whether or not Bush was simply patting his White House predecessor on the back, or wiping away cooties. At first, it looks like he’s just patting Clinton on the back, but as he is pulling his hand away, there is definite wipe-action.

NPR noted in an article that the gesture would be understandable if that was the case. The former-Presidents were visiting with survivors in a camp where cleanliness was difficult to maintain. The survivors aren’t given access to regular bathing facilities, and hygiene is definitely a problem. Instead of offending everyone by whipping out a bottle of hand sanitizer, he secretly swiped the germs down the back of Clinton’s shirt.

Oh, Dubbya. You should consider doing stand-up comedy now that you’ve retired from the White House. I’d come to see you live.
