Recent speculation about the fate of 24 has come to an end, and so has the show.

While the FOX network has yet to make the official announcement, director and co-producer Jon Cassar, let the word slip on Twitter when he tweeted:

“News from the 24 set,the crew has been told that 24 has come to an end. There will b no season 9. Its been a great run, thanx all 4 watching.”

This news was confirmed, also on Twitter, by actress Mary Lynn Rajskub, who plays Chloe O’Brian, when she tweeted:

“Just found out we got the word officially. This is 24’s last season.”

And Director of Cinematography, Rodney Charters, tweeted:

“24 finally cancelled after 9 amazing years may it live on in DVD for years to come thanks to the fans for following Kiefer and all of us behind the scenes for all those seasons”

It’s highly unlikely that these three would say such things if it weren’t true, and we are therefore left to assume that the news will come straight from FOX shortly, and you can rest assure that the reaction from the fans will not be pretty. Hey, at least we’ll get to see the ending of the series, that’s something considering it is FOX.

While the show may be ending on one network, there’s another rumor circulating that NBC may be picking it up, thus avoiding its demise. There’s also talk of a feature-length movie in which Jack Bauer travels to Europe, but again, both of these rumors have yet to be confirmed.
