Another season of Dancing With The Stars is underway. This year the teams went back to dancing one dance for the first night, which is a good thing because the majority of the dances I saw were not that good.

The night started with Chad Ochocinco and Cheryl Burke performing the Cha Cha. This was pretty good energy and decent for the first dance. They received an 18.

Shannen Doherty and Mark Ballas danced the first Viennese Waltz. The dance was complicated and it appeared uncomfortable and lacked a connection. The judges gave them an 18 as well.

The rest of the dancers alternated the Cha Cha and the Viennese waltz. I’ll skip the crap and just hit the highlights. The most entertaining star was hands down Niecy Nash.

Niecy was paired with Louis Van Amstel. Her dancing was not fabulous but her personality made up for it. She was concerned if she did the show she might lose weight and lose her “giggly parts.” She shook her giggly parts all over that stage in a fun Cha Cha to “Rescue Me.”

The judges’ favorite was Nicole Scherzinger and Derek Hough. They tore up the stage with grace and elegance. Nicole was beautiful and the dance received two nines. The total score for the couple was 25.

The couple with the lowest judges’ score was Buzz Aldrin and Ashley Costa. Buzz is 80 so I can see how a Cha Cha might be difficult for him. He tried to shake his hips but they just weren’t moving like they used to.  Buzz is either very quick witted or he has his own writer, because he came up with some of the best lines, such as, “I steped on the moon and tonight I am dancing with the stars.” Buzz and Ashley received a 14 for their performance.

I don’t think I was really shocked by any one star. They all performed pretty much they way I expected.  The leaders after tonight were Nichole Scherzinger, Evan Lysack and Pamela Anderson. The only problem with being in the lead early is that you have to continue through the competition at that level or you will disappoint the judges.
