When one thinks of actress Sarah Jessica Parker, the television series Sex and the City probably comes to mind. This HBO series is perhaps most responsible for Parker’s popularity today. Parker portrayed the role of New York newspaper columnist Carrie Bradshaw on the show from 1998-2004. Four years after the show ended, Parker reprized her role as Bradshaw in Sex and the City: The Movie. Later this year, Parker will once again reprise her role in the sequel, Sex and the City 2.
Before appearing in Sex and the City, Parker had recurring roles on shows such as Square Pegs, A Year in the Life and Equal Justice. Besides appearing on the small screen, Parker has also appeared in several well known films.
Some of her most memorable film roles include Shelly Stewart in The First Wives Club, Claire Wellesley in State and Main, Paula in Failure to Launch as well as Meryl Morgan in Did You Hear About the Morgans?. Parker’s 36 year career has been successful, earning her two Emmy awards as well as six nominations, four Golden Globes and three SAG awards.
Sarah Jessica Parker was born on March 25, 1965, in Nelsonville, Ohio. Her earliest experience in front of a vast audience was on Broadway in the production of The Innocents, written by William Archibald. In 1979, Parker appeared once again on Broadway in the musical, Annie. These roles eventually led to her first recurring television role on Square Pegs. Aside from acting, Parker has modeled for companies such as Garnier and Gap. She currently owns two fragrance lines, Lovely and Covet, and owns a fashion line called Bitten. Parker is married to actor Matthew Broderick. The couple shares a son named James Wilke and twins, Marion Loretta Elwell and Tabitha Hodge.
