I can’t even begin to imagine the pressures television newscasters endure. I can barely speak in front of a room full of people I know without breaking out in a cold sweat, so the very idea of performing live in front of a camera gives me hives. Not generally true from twenty-year newscast veteran, Gordon Boyd.

As a volunteer newscaster for WVLT TV, Boyd has the responsibility of reporting live from the scene on a regular basis. Throughout the course of his career he’s always made it a point to keep his reports unbiased, factual and professional. Not the case earlier this week while reporting outside the trial of a child-murderer in Knoxville, TN.

Through the first few seconds of his report, he kept his composure, but after stumbling over his words midway through the facts, he pursed his lips, shook his head and threw down his notebook in a fit of rage. Teleprompter problems? Do they even use teleprompters when recording live TV news segments? Did he misread his notes? It’s hard to tell what brought on the anguish, but the camera quickly cut out, taking the scene back to the newsroom who noted they were experiencing technical difficulties.

Hopefully, it wasn’t so severe Boyd loses his position over it. Everybody has a bad day now and then. Unfortunately his just happened to be broadcast all over television before going viral on the net.
