After an intense Facebook campaign to get her the gig, it was announced officially that Betty White will host Saturday Night Live on May 8th, Mother’s Day.
Lorne Michaels said to USA Today, “It took on a groundswell. It isn’t something we would have said no to, [but the campaign] validated that, ‘Oh, that’d be fun.’ … It was the outpouring of affection from fans, and we feel the same way.” Betty White also had a few words to say. “Years ago, I turned it down three times. It’s so New York, and I’m not New York at all. But my agent said he’d divorce me if I didn’t do it, and I love my agent.”
The former Golden Girls star recently came back into the limelight when she took part in a very popular Snickers Super Bowl commercial. When asked about all the attention she’s getting, White said, “It’s lovely, and at my age it’s certainly unexpected. I’ve got so much energy, it’s ridiculous. I love working. My schedule is a feverish one, and I’m used to that.”
While White may be the host, the Mother’s Day episode will reunite six former SNLfemale cast members (who also happen to be moms): Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Molly Shannon, Maya Rudolph, Ana Gasteyer and Rachel Dratch.
