Corey Haim passed away early this morning after what is believed to be a drug overdose.
Corey Haim was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, in December of 1971. His mother enrolled him in acting lessons to try and help him overcome his shyness. Haim rose to heartthrob status in the 1980s after his roles in the movies Lucas, Murphy’s Romance, License to Drive, Dream A Little Dream and The Lost Boys, which also starred Corey Feldman. The two Corey’s starred in A&E’s television series The Two Coreys, which aired from 2007 to 2008. Haim was nominated for a Viewer’s Choice Award at the 22nd Annual Gemini Awards in Canada for his part on the show.
Unfortunately the actor fell into the same trap that many child and teen actors fall into- drugs. Haim struggled with substance abuse for years. Though it looks as though his death was of accidental overdose, Coroner’s Lt. Cheryl MacWillie said that an autopsy would find the official cause of his passing.
Haim was found unresponsive in his apartment between Burbank and Hollywood Hills. He was home with his mother, Judy, at the time, who called 9-1-1 when she found him. He was pronounced dead at 3:30 a.m. this morning at Providence St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Burbank according to police.
