Welcome to another Weekend Roundup!   What happened this weekend while you were enjoying the (almost) spring weather?

Berlin had a big shake up this Saturday when, during a televised poker event, four robbers came in with machetes and handguns and made off with over $1.1 million.  What does this have to do with television?  The whole thing was caught on film by German cameras during the live event.  Police report that seven people were injured and one security guard was slightly wounded during the heist.  The best part is the poker game continued within a few hours after the robbers left.

This weekend it was announced that Fringe was picked up for a third season.  Thought the show it’s killing in ratings, I guess FOX figured that it’s sci-fi competition (V, FlashForward) wasn’t much.  Plus, the show managed to survive despite the tough Thursday time slot.  The show will return with new episodes on April 1st.

Don’t mind me over here, I’m just doing a tiny dance of joy.  Futurama is supposedly returning to Comedy Central on Thursday, June 24.  The show is supposed to run for 26 episodes and will be the first time new episodes have been aired since 2003.  As Futurama is one of my favorite shows ever figure that you won’t see much of me after it airs.  Just sayin’.

If Martha Stewart didn’t have enough to do, now she has a reality series called Help Me, Martha.  Apparently the show will feature Martha Stewart going to individuals homes and helping them figure out domestic issues that have got them stumped (like decorating rooms, how to throw a party, how to plan a wedding, etc).  The show hasn’t been picked up by any network yet, but I’d imagine it will be soon.

The 82nd Academy Awards happened on Sunday night and took a surprising turn.  For the first time in Oscar history, a woman won the Best Director category.  Not only did Kathryn Bigelow win Best Director, but her intense drama The Hurt Locker took Best Picture as well, beating out James Cameron’s Avatar.  In fact, Avatar, which has made history as the highest grossing film ever, only won three awards and only in technicality areas.  It was an exciting night!

That wraps it up for this weekend!  Tune in next week to find out what you missed while prepping for your big St. Patrick’s Day party!
