The Marriage Ref Has Big Laughs

By Missy Armstrong on March 5th, 2010

The Marriage Ref premiered this week on NBC. The premise of the show is real life couples have their issues aired on national TV and a panel of celebrity judges discuss the issues, then the Ref (Tom Papa) makes the call on who wins. At first I thought this crazy. Keep your business at home. After watching for a few minutes I was pleased that these people finally have a winner in their arguments.

The celebrity panel was Tina Fey, Jerry Seinfeld and Eva Longoria Parker. The first couple had been married 18 years. The husband had become obsessed with his looks; he waxes, tans, gets mani/petties and doesn’t go to the kids games because of bugs. The wife thought she married a Jersey cop and ended up with the cop from The Village People.  The husband said if he got more “Schookie” he may stay home more, instead of spending time at the spa. The Ref said the husband wins because he was all for clean and if the woman gave him more loving they would be happier.

The next crazy couple was arguing because the wife has a formal dining room table that she will not let the husband sit at unless it is Thanksgiving and because he can’t figure out how to put up a do-it-yourself porch.

The wife believes all men should inherently know how to put stuff together. The Ref was in favor of the wife in the dinning room but in favor of the man about the porch.

There were two other families shown on the show, one with a ring issue and another about flossing in bed. Basically the show was hilarious. I could not believe how mad some of these couples were over the simplest things. I have not been married long but normally we just suck it up and one of us gives in. It is great to see the take the celebrities have on the people and I loved that the Ref actually listened to the couples.
