This weekend was my (kinda) birthday weekend (I’m a Leap Day baby) and while I tried to have my own little celebrations, I was glued to the television and Internet staring at the news.
This weekend Marie Osmond’s son, Michael Blosil, committed suicide by jumping from his apartment onto downtown L.A. Friday evening. Blosil was 18 years old and one of Osmond’s eight children. In his suicide note, Blosil blamed his life-long battle with depression as the reason for taking his life. “My family and I are devastated and in deep shock by the tragic loss of our dear Michael and ask that everyone respect our privacy during this difficult time,” Marie said in a statement. She’s supposedly being comforted now by longtime friend Mary Hart of Entertainment Tonight.
The Brady Bunch reunion show has been cancelled because of a long lasting feud between Maureen McCormick and Eve Plumb (Marcia and Jan). The group of actors were supposed to take part in a large morning show but when the two ladies heard each other were going to take part, the wheels screeched to a halt. Apparently it all stems from McCormick hinting to a lesbian relationship between herself and Plumb in her book and Plumb felt she was used to sell the book (both deny the relationship ever happened). For goodness sakes ladies, how old are you?
Friday night the NAACP awards took FOX by storm. Tyler Perry’s House of Paynetook several awards in Outstanding Comedy Series, Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series, Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series, Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series and Outstanding Actor in a Comedy Series while Mo’Nique took Outstanding Talk Series for The Mo’Nique Show. I was hoping Glee would grab best comedy (I love Glee) but Tyler Perry’s House of Payne deserves its awards. For a full list of winners, check it out here.
The Olympics came to a close this Sunday poking fun at what it is to be a Canadian and to breathe a sigh of relief that it’s all over. Stars from the country like Michael J.
Fox and William Shatner came out to apologize for winning medals in order to mock the country’s penchant for politeness (playfully of course). Clowns came out to finally raise the arm for the Olympic torch that would not raise during the opening ceremony and huge moose dominated the stage. Of course, the country also paid tribute to the fallen Georgian Luger who lost his life right before the games. “To the people of Georgia, we are so sad and so sorry for your loss. Your unimaginable grief is shared by every Canadian and all those who have gathered here,” said Furlong during a standing ovation. It was a beautiful closing ceremony.
Well that’s all for this weekend. Tune in next Monday to see what happened while you were hoping spring would come sooner!
