Say Goodbye To ‘The Deep End’

The short lived series The Deep End is airing its final episode tonight.

Unlike most lawyer type shows (I’m referring to Law & Order, The Good Wife, and others like them) The Deep End focused more of the  cartoon-ish side of its characters, steeping them deeply in humor and sexual tension.  The show follows five young lawyers as they enter one of the most prestigious firms in L.A. and cope despite their diverse backgrounds.  One of their bosses, Cliff Huddle (Billy Zane), is known as “The Prince of Darkness” and makes life particularly difficult for the new lawyers.

The show was a mid-season replacement and the material isn’t exactly groundbreaking.  Critics panned it and actual lawyers said it didn’t have a realistic undertone- many of the antics the characters get up to would violate the ABA Model Rules of Professional Conduct.  People just didn’t watch the show and on February 18, 2010, ABC announced its cancellation.

In its last episode, Addy (Tina Majorino) and Malcolm are teaming up to take on a bad insurance company.  If you’re interested in seeing how the series goes out, tune in to ABC tonight at 8:00 p.m. EST.   If you’re not interested, well there’s plenty of good television on to entertain you.
