Walter_Koenig_StatementIn a heartbreaking turn of events, Andrew Koenig’s body was found in Vancouver’s Stanley Park today.  A press conference was held to announce the discovery.

Walter Koenig, with his wife by his side, announced to the press that the body found earlier today was indeed Andrew’s.  “My son took his own life,” said the crying father.  Both Walter and Judy along with ten of Andrew’s friends came back to Vancouver to conduct their own search.  The split into teams to search and after about two hours, the Koenigs received a call from the other team that they had found a body.  The Koenigs then went to the site where he was found.

Andrew Koenig was born in 1968 to Walter Koenig and his wife, Judy Levitt.  As an actor he was most well known for his role as Richard “Boner” Stabone, the best friend to Kirk Cameron’s character on Growing Pains.  Koenig suffered from depression and prior to his disappearance he appeared despondent.  He had stopped taking his medication about a year before and had recently sold all of his belongings.  His last appearance was outside a bakery on February 14th in Vancouver.  His parents appeared on the Today show on Wednesday to ask for aid in finding Andrew.  A scheduled appearance was set on Larry King Live for last night, but after being pushed back in favor of recent news, the Koenigs left before speaking.

The body was in a densely wooded area which made it difficult to find.  The police say they have no reason to suspect foul play was involved.  The Koenigs are now appealing to those suffering from depression to get aid.  “If you can learn anything from this, it’s that there are people out there who really care, and you may not think so, and ultimately it may not be enough, but … before you make that final decision, check it out again, talk to somebody,” said Walter.  Judy added, “Don’t rationalize away anything — connect with each other if there’s something that’s bothering you, because there’s love out there.”

Such a tragic end.  I was hoping and praying that Andrew was still alive somewhere.  Rest in peace Andrew, I hope you’re in a much better place.
