If you have a Twitter account, you’ve probably heard of ShitMyDadSays.
Justin Halpern created the account after moving in with his 74-year-old father. He claims to only write down some of the jewels his father utters. The quips are so amusing, Halpern has acquired over one million followers, been vaulted to Internet celebrity status, and now has a television pilot being filmed about his family. To top it all off, William Shatner has now been cast to play his father on national television.
Back in November the family comedy was only set up with a script commitment. Now, with Shatner taking part, the idea has been green-lighted to pilot. Halpern, along with Patrick Schumacker, co-penned the script and the two will work together as co-execs to produce the pilot. The title is subject to change, should the show be picked up for a series. Shatner was apparently an early favorite for the role. His spoken word comedic renditions of Sarah Palin’s Twitter account, book, and farewell speech fit the style of Halpern’s father’s quotes.
William Shatner recently starred on ABC’s Boston Legal where he played Denny Crane, a litigator who was a legend in his own mind. He won an Emmy for his performance in the show along with another Emmy for playing the role on Boston Legal’s predecessor The Practice. While the majority of us recognize Shatner for his iconic role of James T. Kirk on Star Trek, it’s good to see Shatner staying on television.
