Even when Spike regained his soul, he was still Spike and though he wrestled with his nature, he wasn't near as whiny as Angel. Many of Anne Rice's vampires embraced their nature for the most part, but Louis in Interview with a Vampire was definitely a self-loathing whiner who set the tone for many of today's pathetic vampire specimens. I really do loathe the Vampire Diaries and Twilight. They're making vampires come across like pansies. boo I have to defend Whedon, who balanced the wishy-washy Angel character with Spike.
