Anyone who regularly reads my posts over here knows I love the Muppets. I was tickled last month to see them jammin’ with Jimmy Fallon and I can’t help giggling every time I catch one of their Disney commercials. It excites me to no end that they are bringing the Muppets back, as my own child grew up in a Muppet-scarce world. I know, the horror!
One of my favorite Muppets as a kid was Beaker. Not only was he cute, but as the assistant to Dr. Bunsen Honeydew, he also found himself on the bad end of a lot of botched experiments. I imagine that living such an adventurous life in the lab, Beaker has built up a lot of emotional baggage over the last few years.
He may not be much when it comes to words, but there is a definite heartfelt twang as he belts out “meep, meep, meep…” to the tune of Kansas classic, “Dust in the Wind.”
Unfortunately, as with everything Beaker seems to put his hands on, the peaceful melody becomes a disaster in a matter of seconds. As the studio catches fire against a downpour of negative Internet commentary, Statler and Waldorf make a special appearance to let users know they should “Digg” it until it’s buried.
Poor Beaker. I “Digg” it, but in a good way.
