American Idol Hollywood week 1

Last night Ellen DeGeneres took her place as the 4th judge for American Idol and it looks like she is adding a touch of comedy to the crew. It was the first week of Hollywood auditions and The competition is on.

The Hollywood week was the usual routine. The contestants filed in, in groups, performed one song and the judges chose some to stay and others to go home. Skiiboskii, the crazy guy from Orlando, failed to please the judges and was sent packing. Vanessa Wolf, the country girl with $4.50 dress let her nerves get the best of her audition. It was probably still the jitters after her first airplane ride.

The first day we saw a lot of new faces and said goodbye to some we remembered from the auditions.

The judges chose 46 people to stay in Hollywood on day one.

On day two more dreams were crushed and dreams came true. One of the most exciting points in the day was Michael Lynche. That day Michael’s wife called him to tell him her water had broke and she was on her way to deliver their first child. Michael took the stage and belted out a beautiful song that had everyone singing his praises.

Another person to look out for from day two is Didi Benami. She has a great look and sound. She was an easy choice for round two. In total, the 95 of the 181 contestants had the chops to make it to the next week.

I admit I was skeptical of Ellen DeGeneres’ appointment as judge. After last night’s show, I think she added some light humor that the show really needed. What do you think? I can see some real talent this year and I think it is going to be one heck of a battle to the end.
