Political satirist, Jon Stewart, sat down with Bill O’Reilly last night to talk about Fox News and in President Obama in part one of a two part interview on the O’Reilly Factor. During the interview, Stewart told O’Reilly that he was the only voice of reason on Fox News these days, and even that was pushing it.
Knowing Jon Stewart, and his penchant for pushing buttons, many people expected the interview to be high blown and full of controversial accusations and arguments, but Stewart was in rare form last night. When O’Reilly brought up Stewart’s recent criticism of Fox News cutting away during the State of the Union Address, Stewart chuckled, even when O’Reilly started tossing his arms around like Muhummad Ali.
Statistics were tossed back and forth on America’s trust in both Stewart and the Fox News channel, but Stewart admitted that he believed Fox was the most passionate news organization with the clearest narrative. He went on to jive Fox News on their ability to remain consistent with their broadcast agenda, teetering out of balance between opinion and actual news broadcasting.
The two spent a big chunk of the interview conservatively arguing the nature of Fox’s objectivity, and the interview continues tonight. One of the interesting things about the entire situation is that broadcast bigwigs in the political forum have a hard time taking Stewart seriously, and they approach interviews and commentary in regards to him with the gloves on, but he can hold his own in a battle of wits and politics. I’ll be interested to see how they finish their discussion.
