The Wedding Singer 600x300Maybe it’s nostalgia, or even a little bit of laziness, but everyone has movies that no matter how many times they’ve seen them, they watch them every single time they come on television. Even if I have more important things to do, here are ten movies I refuse to turn off, even if I just watched them last weekend.

  • The Wedding Singer

There is something about Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore together that tickles my romantic heart. Not only do they share a great balance between humor and romantic love on-screen, but the glamorization of the 80s in this film takes me back to a time and place when life was not only good, but chock full of Billy Idol.

  • National Lampoon’s Vacation

If this film doesn’t date me, others on this list most certainly will.

Growing up, we watched this movie so often that even now when I watch it on television I still know every line by heart. Chevy Chase was one of the funniest people alive when I was a kid, and even though much of the humor in this movie is dated, it’s still a great movie.

  • The Princess Bride

While I’ll never say I find Cary Elwes attractive, The Princess Bride is one of the best romantic comedies ever made. Much like National Lampoon’s Vacation, I knew every line of this movie by heart. Despite that, I still get as excited watching as I did the very first time I saw it.

  • Dumb and Dumber

Most people will agree this is one of the most ridiculous films in the history of film making, but I can’t help myself. Sometimes a little ridiculous humor takes the edge off the nightly news. Come on. You know you want to hear the most annoying sound in the world.

  • Total Recall

Aside from Terminator, Total Recall is one of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s best movies. I can’t even count how many times I have seen this movie, and yet every time he pulls that thing out of his nose it still freaks me out. Even though some of the technology seems more outdated than the hairstyles, it’s always a must watch.

  • Pitch Black

The first time I saw Pitch Black, I thought it was one of the creepiest science fiction/horror films I’d ever seen, and I don’t care what anyone says, Vin Diesel was cool in that movie. Even though I have the director’s cut on DVD, I still stop and watch if I catch it on television because it’s living proof there’s a reason to be afraid of the dark.

  • Stand By Me

No matter how many times I watch Stand By Me, it pulls me in. Despite the fact that it takes place in a time when I wasn’t even alive, I was fortunate enough to grow up in a small town neighborhood with a group of kids who went on adventures much like the ones the boys in Stand By Me. Stephen King captures the dark spirit of coming of age so well in this story that it resonates with nearly everyone who watches it, no matter how old they are.

  • The Breakfast Club

Of all the John Hughes films, The Breakfast Club is a classic favorite. Not only does it contain a stellar brat-packed cast, it had some of the most memorable lines. One of the great things about John Hughes’ movies was that they pushed the social limitations most high school kids faced during the 80s, the fine line between high school social groups. Watching this movie as an adult always takes me back. In fact, I wish it was on today.

  • Sixteen Candles

Another John Hughes classic, this list wouldn’t be complete without Samantha Baker–the girl whose family forgot her sixteenth birthday. Like The Breakfast Club, this film is brimming with memorable lines and actors. Though I haven’t seen Jake Ryan in a movie since Sixteen Candles, look at what it did for Molly Ringwold, John Cusack and Anthony Michael Hall.

  • Jaws

Jaws is one of those movies that shaped my entire life. The first time I saw it I was five years old, and I had nightmares for the next… well, the rest of my life. As a kid I used to get anxiety attacks swimming in the deep end at the public pool because I was relatively certain they were keeping Jaws in the grate at the bottom of the pool. To this day I refuse to swim in the ocean, and have more or less sworn of any boat that isn’t a cruise ship because we’ve all seen what Jaws can do to boats. So why watch it every time it’s on? Because any movie that scary is always worth a watch.
