The weekend was a lot like watching The Lord of The Rings trilogy- it started with a nice introduction, got kind of boring in the middle, then ended with another bang.
On Saturday it was announced that our favorite controversial MTV program will return for a second season. After a week of contract negotiations, Snooki and all her pals will be returning for The Jersey Shore. It’s reported that each of the cast members will be awarded $10,000 per episode. Yes, that’s right. Each of them will get $10,000 an episode to act like idiots on television. Aren’t you proud of what society’s turned to for entertainment?
Also on Saturday, the Miss America pageant took place. It was televised live from Las Vegas with host Mario Lopez. I can honestly say I didn’t watch it (as I’m sure most of you didn’t), but I will say kudos to the winner Caressa Cameron from my home state of Virginia. Cameron sang “Listen” from Dreamgirls and in addition to winning the crown, she also was awarded a $50,000 scholarship. Controversial radio host Rush Limbaugh and American Idol’s Brooke White were on the judging panel.
In other news, Entertainment Weekly is reporting that CBS has rejected a Super Bowl ad for a gay dating service. “After reviewing the ad — which is entirely commercial in nature — our Standards and Practices department decided not to accept this particular spot,” said a statement by a network rep . “As always, we are open to working with the client on alternative submissions.” CBS made waves not long ago for accepting a commercial advertisement for Focus On The Family with Tim Tebow. Is this a double standard?
Finally, the weekend ended on a high note (get it?) with the Grammy Awards taking place last night (Sunday). I was expecting another Taylor Swift award show, but Beyoncé took home a record six Grammy Awards, the most any woman has won, ever. Curious who else won? Check out our list of winners!
That wraps up the weekend! Tune in next week for more weekend news!
