Neil_Harris_on_AIAmerican Idol does Dallas this week with guest judges Neil Patrick Harris and Joe Jonas.  Neil Patrick Harris seemed to disagree with Simon at every turn. The How I Met Your Mother star was not going to be just another push over. He stuck to his guns and if he liked someone he said it, if he didn’t he said that to. Joe, however, seemed to blend in with the curtains. I forgot he was even there most of the time.

The first audition was with Julie Kerelighan, who tried out in season one and was wrenched.  Eight seasons later and countless hours of voice lessons and she is still horrid. She refused to leave and tried to sing two more songs after the first.

Security had to come and drag her off.  I have no idea who told her she was good , but I am pretty sure singing like that could get you shot in some countries.

The day was filed with a marriage of good and bad singers. Few stood out expect Erika Rhodes. Erika grew up performing on Barney and Friends. She now wants to change that good girl image. She walked in wearing  leather and carrying a whip. It’s a good thing the judges sent her through or they might have been beaten up by a girl from Barney. 15 golden tickets were given out on day one.

Day two was your average parade of people looking for their 15 minutes of fame. We heard a whole lot of sappy stories of how this person once had a deadly hangnail or something.  One upside was overly exuberant Vanessa Johnston. Vanessa was the girl that was covered in pink and was way too friendly. I almost fell out of my chair when she started singing, “At Last.” She was moving all around and screaming the lyrics. Randy said she looked like she was chasing the notes around the room. Simon said, “That is what my nightmares look and sound like.” She seemed unfazed by the comments and headed out in smiles.
