American Idol is the highest rated American television program only behind the Academy Awards and the Superbowl. It’s been on for nine seasons, has made household names out of some, laughing stocks out of others. It’s the show people love to hate, and gather around the water cooler to talk about each and every week.
So what’s it got to do with Samuel L. Jackson?
One of the shows finalists is actually the cousin of the famous movie star who has starred in such flicks as Snakes on a Place, Black Snake Moan (I see a trend), Shaft, and of course, Pulp Fiction.
Bet you can’t guess who?
During the first season of the show, contestants battled it out on the show that was a mid-season replacement on FOX, and quickly went on to win the hearts of all Americans, with an estimated 50 million of them watching the finale. One by one they fell. Nikki McGibbin, Tamyra Gray, R.J. Helton, and Christiana Christian. Then there were two.
Justin and Kelly.
Viewers voted as the two singers belted out their best of the best to win the competition. In the end, Kelly Clarkson stood tall to win the first ever American Idol. Runner-up, Justin Guarini, was no slouch though. While Kelly has had major success and won many awards, Justin has been busy recording, hosting TV programs, touring, and yes, even getting married.
I’ll bet he even calls up his cuz from time to time to see how he’s doing.
That’s right! Justin Guarini and movie star, Samuel L. Jackson, are cousins. Jackson revealed the news on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno that he was pulling for his cousin to win, way back in 2002.
I wonder what Justin’s wallet has written on it?
