Conan OBrien Angry 300x300What an interesting weekend full of celebrities helping out friends (Conan O’Brien), helping out a country (Hope for Haiti), a detergent trying to breathe life into a dying soap opera (As The World Turns) and an irritating celebrity getting arrested (Andy Dick).

Well, it’s finally over.  Conan O’Brien had his last show with NBC on Friday.  It was an incredibly emotional night for the redhead as celebrities gathered around him to give him a proper send off.  Tom Hanks and Will Ferrell made appearances and Steve Carrell gave the official exit interview.  O’Brien won’t be able to host a show for another seven months as per his exit negotiations with NBC, but he has jokingly offered to play wing-man for his friend Andy Richter should he get a program.  In his farewell speech, he spoke to his fans saying, “Please do not be cynical.

I hate cynicism. For the record, it’s my least favorite quality. It’s doesn’t lead anywhere. No one in life gets exactly what they thought they were going to get. But if you work really hard and you’re kind, amazing things will happen.”  I hope we see more of Conan soon.

Also on Friday was George Clooney’s telethon called Hope for Haiti.  So many stars came out to support the country that was devastated by an earthquake about two weeks ago.  Musicians and actors alike spoke through their art in order to get people to donate to the relief effort.  Anderson Cooper did a live report from Haiti and showed us just what exactly we are giving our money to.  If you missed the telethon and would like to donate, please call 1-877-99-HAITI.

On a lighter note, have you seen those Cheer commercials where the woman wakes up from a coma and there’s her doctor in the whitest, brightest lab coat you’ve ever seen?  Apparently this is not just a one time thing.  Proctor and Gamble, the makers of Cheer, have created an online soap opera called “Brighten Bay”  and are now holding a contest in which the winner will get a walk-on role on CBS’ show, As The World Turns.  Did someone forget to tell Cheer that As The World Turns is cancelled?

Last, but definitely not least, Andy Dick (NewsRadio) has been arrested for sexual abuse.    Apparently, Dick was having a conversation with a gentleman then grabbed his crotch and started kissing him without invitation.  Included in the report was that Dick also grabbed a security guard’s crotch and started laughing when the guard tried to give him an armband.  Dick has been performing at the Funny Bone in West Virginia.  He faces one to five years in prison if convicted.

That’s it for Weekend Roundup!  Tune in next week to see what you missed over the weekend!
