So the newest episode of The Vampire Diaries aired last night and it was crazy complex. We left off in November with Elena finally seeing a picture of Katherine and seeing that she looked exactly like her, then crashing her car because of a mysterious vampire.
Damon saves her from the vampire and whisks her away to Georgia in order to find Bree, a witch friend and ex-lover of Damon’s. Elena’s all too eager to get away from Stefan and Damon hopes Bree can help her find a way to open Katherine’s tomb. Elena really gets to know Damon and falls for his charm, ultimately getting completely and totally smashed drunk with him at the bar Bree bar-tends. Bree’s not the sunshine and light we thought she was as she’s hired Lexi’s boyfriend (who happens to be a vampire) to come and kill Damon, though Elena somehow keeps him alive (as alive as a vampire can be) through emotion. When Damon finds out what Bree did, he rips out her insides. How lovely.
Back at home, Bonnie has lost her magical focus so she goes to talk to Grams. Grams tells her to go to Katherine’s tomb, face her fears, and everything will fall into place. However, Bonnie falls a little too far when she falls into the crypt itself. Stefan goes to find Bonnie and is only able to save her after revealing himself to Grams. Elena comes home and confronts Stefan who then reveals that it was he who had saved her from the submerged vehicle that killed her parents due to her father asking Stefan to rescue her. He also reveals that she’s adopted, which is why she looks like Katherine instead of her passed parents. He tells her how much he loves her and that she’s nothing like Katherine, that he made sure she was nothing like her before he talked to her at school.
There’s more information that happens to other characters, but honestly I’m sure you don’t want a blow by blow recount of the whole story. There was so much information in this episode, it sent my head spinning. I must admit though, even with all of this info I was more excited to see the guest stars than the actual returning characters. Jasmine Guy stepped into the role as Grams and she is just as gorgeous now as she was when she played Whitley on Different World. Gina Torres played Bree and I really wish she could have stayed on the cast longer than one episode.
Good show (though I hear they’re better in book form), all be it very dramatic. Unfortunately I ascribe to the belief that vampires are supposed to be monsters, not romantic, emotional wrecks.
