I couldn’t realize my good fortune when I saw that a new The Office was set to come on last night. It had been so long since I had spent time with Michael (Steve Carell), Jim (John Krasinski), Pam (Jenna Fischer), and Dwight (Rainn Wilson) that I just couldn’t stand it anymore.

But I have to admit—and I hate having to do so—that this episode of The Office left me wanting. Sure, I enjoyed it, but…I was pretty disappointed.

The episode’s premise is that a wealthy investor shows interest in buying Dunder Mifflin, so the Scranton branch goes all out to impress him into buying. Sounds pretty funny, right? Well, it was funny.

But it was made up almost entirely of flashbacks of some of the most memorable moments of the show.

All in all, there was probably a total of seven minutes of fresh material during this week’s episode of my all-time favorite show. The remaining minutes were filled with the funniest and most touching moments that the Scranton branch has enjoyed together. Don’t get me wrong—I loved reliving some of the earlier moments in the show. In fact, there were some from the first couple of seasons that I had almost forgotten about, so it was nice to be reminded of the early, funny years of The Office.

However, I had to ask myself: are the writers of The Office burnt out? Have they used up all their funny? I certainly hope not.
