The time has come! After previewing the premiere and having the honor of interviewing Ben Nemtin of The Buried Life crew, the premiere finally came upon me last night on MTV.
If you don’t know by now, these four guys (Ben, Duncan, Jonnie, and Dave) have decided they want to do more with their lives and tackle a list of 100 things they wish to do with their lives. As they complete their bucket list, they help other people cross things off their own private lists and film the whole deal as they do it. The guys plan on making their journey into a documentary film, but also had the wonderful opportunity to make a television program for MTV. After choosing their most ambitious list choices, they embarked on filming their television show with the same crew who’s been with them for the last four years.
The first episode took place in Los Angeles to cross number six off their list, “Attend a party at the Playboy Mansion.” Hugh Heffner’s place is probably more secure than a military base, so the guys really had their work cut out for them. The party being held is a Alice In Wonderland and Willy Wonka mash-up, so Dave and Duncan dress up as Oompa Loompas and sneak into the party stowed away in a giant wooden cake prop. Jonnie and Ben attempt to pass Ben off as a famous soccer player, but get turned away. Dave and Duncan succeed in sneaking in and have a blast.
While in Los Angeles, they stop a gentleman on the street and ask what he wants to do before he dies. He says he’d like to do more for his school. He says the kids he teaches are so smart and have a thirst for knowledge, but they don’t have a class computer to work on. The guys go out on the street and break dance, sing, perform, even sell the clothes off their backs in order to raise enough money for a new computer. After working hard, they finally have enough and give a beautiful new Macintosh to the kids who are beside themselves with joy.
If you didn’t watch this show, I encourage you to go to The Buried Life’s MTV website and watch the videos available. Then I encourage you to watch this show as often as you can. It’s beyond inspiring… it gives hope.
