Life_Unexpected_S01E01_300x300I expected to tune in and watch another teen or early twenties drama. However, Life Unexpected caught me by surprise. The writing was thoughtful and funny. I have high hopes that this CW drama can be a great addition to the CW line up.

The show is about a 16 year old girl named Lux(Britt Robertson), who has spent her life bouncing from foster home to foster home.  She sets out to find her birth parents so that she can be emancipated. Lux finds out that her father, Nate Basil, owns a bar and lives above it with his bachelor friends.

When she shows up on his doorstep, all the guys start yelling out orders for Girl Scout cookies.  Then one says, “Dude she’s not a Girl Scout, she’s a girl.” Lux and Nate spend time together and he signs the paper to relinquish rights, then the try to get a hold of her mother, Cate Cassidy.  Cate is a morning talk show host who hates the idea of settling down. Her co-host is in love with her and tries to ask her to marry him.  She chunks a remote at him.

Cate signs the papers and Lux files them in court. Cate and Nate show up at the hearing. Lux is not given emaciation, but Nate and Cate are given custody of Lux. They have an argument about the past and what to do with Lux. After Cate says she never thought about keeping Lux. Lux runs back to the foster home only to find her stuff packed up.

Cate and Nate decide to raise Lux. Cate with new fiancé, Ryan, and Nate with his bachelor friends, give Lux a birthday party for her 16th birthday.

This show has a great premise and some pretty good actors. There are no big names in the show, but it does have good potential. I was glued to the screen even though I knew they where going to raise Lux I was still captivated.
