Betty WhiteBetty Marion White was born January, 17, 1922, in Oak Park, Illinois. She moved to Los Angles at a young age and graduated from Beverly Hills High School. Before she started acting, she did some modeling work.

Her television debut was in 1949, when she appeared on the daily live television variety show, Hollywood on Television. After host Jarvis’ departure in 1952, Betty took over as host of the show. The same year White co-founded Bandy Productions. The company created new shows using existing characters from sketches Hollywood on Television, like Life With Elizabeth.

After Life with Elizabeth from 1957 to 1958, she appeared as Vicki Angel on the sitcom Date with the Angels.

 White made her film debut in the 1962 film, Advise and Consent.

In the 1950s and 1960s, Betty made appearances on many talk shows and game shows, including Password, What’s My Line?To Tell the TruthI’ve Got a SecretMatch Game, and Pyramid. She married Password host Allen Ludden in 1963.  In 1983, she became the first woman to win a Daytime Emmy Award in the category of Outstanding Game Show Host, for the NBC entry Just Men!. Because of the amount of work she has done with them, she has earned the title of the “First Lady of Game Shows.”

In 1973 White appeared The Mary Tyler Moore Show as ‘the happy homemaker’. The role was a guest star, but white was so funny she landed her signature role as the sardonic, man-hungry Sue Ann Nivens, The Happy Homemaker, as a full time cast member. In 1977, Betty was given her own sitcom The Betty White Show. In 1983, she appeared in Mamma’s Family.

In 1985, she became my favorite naive St. Olaf, Minnesota, native Rose Nylund on The Golden Girls. The show aired until 1992. During this time Rose provided us with countless stories of St. Olaf. White reprised her role as Rose on Empty Nest and Nurses. She also did many guest appearances on other sitcoms including; Ally McBealThe Ellen ShowMy Wife and KidsThat 70s Show, and Malcolm in the Middle.

White has also provided voices for characters in several animated shows including The SimpsonsKing of the HillFamily Guy and Father of the Pride. In 1999, she played an awesome role in the film Lake Placid. White was a sweet widow with a foul mouth that raised the giant crocodile which accidentally ate her husband.

White had a recurring role in ABC’s Boston Legal from 2005 to 2008. In the 2009, she did the film The Proposal.

Betty White has won six Emmy Awards and received 18 Emmy nominations. She has also received three American Comedy Awards, including the Lifetime Achievement award. In 1995 White received a star on the Walk of Fame and was the recipient of the Pacific Pioneers in Broadcasting Golden Ike Award and the Genii Award from the American Women in Radio and Television.
