On the two hour season finale of Sanctuary, abnormals worldwide are reacting strangely to some unknown force. Dr. Magnus isn’t sure there is much they can do besides monitor the abnormals to find a connection. She sends Will and Kate to Mumbai to investigate, while she continues to look into what is causing the trouble among the abnormals.
Will and Kate look into the murder, and discover the statue where the murder victim planted the bug that was inside him at the start of the episode. Will opens the statue and removes the piece from inside. They take it back to analyze it, and the bug escapes.
While Will is sleeping, the bug enters into him.
Magnus can’t find a link between the outbursts of abnormals across the world at first, but eventually finds that it all leads back to Mumbai and is somehow related to the Cult of Kali.
Will begins to hallucinate in the middle of a market in Mumbai, seeing a woman running through the streets. He tries to follow her, but loses track of her before collapsing in the middle of the street. Just as he collapses, a woman takes him inside her home and the mercenaries tracking the bug show up.
Magnus discovers the nature of the bug. The spider is a genetic relative to Kali, who is the most powerful abnormal on the planet, Big Bertha. The world believes Big Bertha be dead, but Magnus reveals that Big Bertha is still alive. If the mercenaries get their hands on the spider, it could lead them to Big Bertha. As news gets out about Magnus withholding the truth about Big Bertha, people are losing their faith in her.
The old lady tells Will about the spider when he regains consciousness, that it was an honor for him to be chosen. She also tells him he needs more training to become a suitable host, and the Sanctuary may not be safe for him. When the old woman discovers that Will has already seen Kali in his visions, she is amazed that the connection is already so strong. Before they can begin the training, Forsythe and his mercenaries find Will and take him prisoner, along with the old woman. They use an electromagnetic pulse to drive the bug out of Will and steal its power.
They scramble the Sanctuary’s connection to Big Bertha, and as Kate intervenes, they find Will without a pulse. They resuscitate him, but his body has been poisoned by the antibodies left behind. Will is still seeing Kali in his dreams because even though the spider was taken out of him, he was the chosen host. He wakes in agony screaming, “Help me find her.”
The grandson of the old woman tells Magnus that Will is still connected to Kali, but she can’t communicate with or hear him without the spider. There is one thing he can do: dance. If he dances well for her, she will listen to him and he can control her. Will disappears to search for Kali, and the Sanctuary team sets out to find him so they can stop Big Bertha from destroying the coastal regions.
If they cannot track Will and find Big Bertha, they will have to destroy Big Bertha, which could potentially destroy millions of people. Meanwhile, Will is searching the streets, but cannot stop Kali because of her connection to the new host. Will tries to reason with Kali, asking her not to bring harm to anyone. she only wants to be left alone.
Because of his communication with her, Kali becomes inactive again, but behind Magnus’s back, the Sanctuary officials decide to wipe out Big Bertha with depth chargers. Kali says that Will betrayed her, and in her rage, Will drops to the ground in pain.
The show closes out for the season with Magnus being discharged and Terrence taking her place. Kali has waged destruction on the world because of the betrayal… but you’ll have to tune in next season to find out how the Sanctuary manages to set things right again.
Will remembers the dance and begins stepping through the streets calling out to Kali. She comes back to him, disrupting the connection Forsythe made with the her.
