Video of the Day: Cops Are People Too

By Jennifer Hudock on January 15th, 2010

As a kid, one of the highlights of growing up in the mountains of Pennsylvania was the frequency of the number of snow days we got to take during the winter months. Most mornings we got up more than an hour before we normally did just to listen to the radio for the announcement that school was closed, and long before our buses were scheduled to pick us up, we were suited up in our snow-pants and trekking up the hillside dragging our sleds behind us.

At thirty-four, I still look forward to snow days. Who doesn’t?

When a group of on-duty, UK police officers approached a man sledding in a kayak, the poor guy thought he was in trouble. No one was more surprised than he was when the officers turned their riot shields upside down and started riding down the hillside.

Of course, when the video got out, the police chief gave his officers a stern talking to about their behavior, but even he knows that nothing brings out the kid in you like a snow-covered hill and a riot shield.

The guy who shot the video also noted that the comments received on his YouTube page were just as refreshing to viewers as it was to him. Seeing the police force in good humor is always a positive thing, but I don’t recommend inviting the local cops to go sled riding with you. Especially if they’re on duty.

It think that's pretty cool. After all, it's not like the UK police have anything better to do.
