The contestants of The Biggest Loser have made it to week two and have to battle to beat the week two curse. In all the past seasons, with the exception of last season, all the contestants have lost very little or gained in week two. This season everyone is fighting to break this curse.
Dr. Huizenga came to the ranch to show everyone how sick they really are. Michael, from the white team, had a huge wake up call when he discovered he had 303 pounds of excess fat. Bob was loaded down with 303 pounds of weight to see what it was doing to Michael. Bob could not stand by himself and had trouble walking a few steps. It was shocking to see a physically fit man struggle under the weight Michael carries around all day. Another Jaw dropper came when they showed Lance and Melissa (Red Team) how much money they would loose during their life if they did not lose the weight. An Armored truck came in with three million dollars loaded on it.
This week’s challenge was a walk across a 40 foot balance beam carrying balls to the other side. The first team to get ten balls across won the challenge. The last team to finish would receive a two pound disadvantage at the weight-in. Maria of the white team had a disabling fear of water. When she finally tried to do the challenge she started to fall and jumped toward the platform. She was bawling and bleeding everywhere. Luckily she only got a black eye and fractured finger. If she would have fallen into the water she would not have hurt anything. Fear got the best of her and they lost the challenge.
The next day, Bob had a talk with Michael, Maria’s son, and made him confront his own self esteem issues. Jillian took Maria to the pool and forced her to face her fears. She overcame them and Jillian helped her to get the basics of swimming.
The red team slacked off because they had immunity. Melissa said she was trying not to lose a lot of weight so she had a better chance of losing next week. It worked.
The Purple team was up for elimination. Patti asked everyone to send her home to save her daughter. Ultimately, the teams followed her wishes and she was sent home. In the follow up, Patti had lost 43 pounds. When she started the ranch she was on nine medications a day; she is now down to one. This shows just how much being overweight and not exercising effects your health.
