NCIS-1In the 150th episode of NCIS, entitled “Flesh and Blood,” the writers brought on board Robert Wagner to play the role of Anthony DiNozzo, Sr. We find that he is a flamboyant, womanizing man of the world… well kinda womanizing. For sure he knows how to make a beautiful woman smile. I found that Robert Wagner played the role spectacularly, offering some quality acting in a role that demanded the full spectrum that included humor, seriousness, mischievousness and even a bit of in-your-face grittiness.  He carried the role well, which is what you would come to expect from a seasoned actor of his quality.

In this monumental 150th episode the NCIS team is called in to investigate the attempted assignation of Prince Sayif, a member of the Saudi Royal family, when his car explodes killing his driver. The Prince is what you might expect from a filthy rich kid, except he is an adult now. The youngest son, he is the one that parties all the time and has a carefree lifestyle. It was perfectly clear that he and his older brother were worlds apart in how they acted and in their level of maturity, right from the beginning. The one thing binding them together was their father.  A slight man of stature, he was still an imposing figure all the same.

DiNozzo learns that his image of his own father doesn’t have the substance he grew up believing. He had always thought of his father as a wealthy, extravagant man of the world. But after some investigation of his father’s background Dinozzo learns that his father is dead broke. Worse, he comes to understand that his father is more of a swindler and con-artist more than anything else.  However, in the end this brings him to appreciate his father even more.

The NCIS team learns that the driver of Prince Sayif is the one who planted the bomb and it was a freak accident of a plane flying to close overhead that caused the explosion which killed him. The team eventually determined that is was the older Prince that ordered the assignation of his younger brother because he felt his kid brother was dishonoring their family name. It’s their soft spoken but imposing father who steps in and brings order and discipline to the situation. Their father makes a powerful comment that in times of crisis it is family that is most important and a father has to protect his children no matter what.

I think this was a wonderful 150th episode for NCIS and just as the cast mentioned, I don’t think anyone could have predicted the show would last for seven years with 150 episodes and still be growing in popularity and viewership the way that it is. As I watched their comments it showed how much the cast really enjoys working with each other and  I personally believe that has a lot to do with the show’s on going success.
