The star of the hit Showtime series Dexter, Michael C. Hall, is being treated for cancer, said a spokesman earlier today. Luckily the disease in in remission, and it doesn’t look like the show, or Hall, will be going anywhere soon.
“I feel fortunate to have been diagnosed with an imminently treatable and curable condition, and I thank my doctors and nurses for their expertise and care,” Hall, 38, said Wednesday in a statement.
The actor is being treated for Hodgkin’s lymphoma (formerly known as Hodgkin’s disease), which is a cancer of the lymphatic system, and is directly related to the body’s immune system. It is considered highly treatable with the potential for full recovery. The disease has a survival rate of 90% or higher when it is detected in the early stages, as it has been in Hall’s case.
Michael C. Hall first rose to fame when he starred in the HBO series Six Feet Under, where he played David Fisher, a deeply troubled, closeted gay man who helps run a funeral home with his dysfunctional family. In 2006, Hall began starring in the Showtime series, Dexter, where he plays Dexter Morgan, a Miami Metro Police Department blood splatter analyst who is also a serial killer. In 2008, Showtime renewed the series for a fourth and fifth season. The final episode of season four aired on December 13, 2009, to a record breaking 2.6 million viewers.
With Michael C. Hall’s cancer being in remission, here’s hoping that the actor can continue doing what he does best; entertaining us with one of the best shows on television right now.
