American_Idol_AuditionsThis season of American Idol started with a bang from Boston. Kara, Randy and Simon were back in top form. Victoria Beckham stepped in as guest judge to add a little “spice” to the show.

As usual, we saw an obscene amount of truly pitiful performances and a minuscule amount of good performances. Here are some of the most truly awful performances of the night. The first girl out of the block was a manly woman with not enough clothes on. Her love handles were hanging out and when she opened her mouth, I was cringing and begging her to stop. Another upsetting performance was by a guy named Andrew. He was so irritated by having to wait, that he came in with way too much attitude and pissed off judge Kara from the get-go. She told him, “You need a spanking.” Then she added, “I need a shower after talking to him.” On the next day, a Latoya Jackson look-a-like came in. Unfortunately, he had a beard and sounded like a dying cat when he sang.

There were also some very good performances in the two days in Boston. I knew when I heard the story of Mattie Curtis, she was going through. She has four brothers with Downs Syndrome. When she sang, I could not believe this girl was 16. She made it through. Another good performance was an Italian guy with a big heart and an awesome voice. Just like true Italians, his family attacked him with loving hugs and kisses after he received his ticket. Simon said he was the best of the day. A very vibrant, out spoken young guy, who was a tour guide on a wild speed boat tour, caused a little controversy. Simon said yes and walked out of the room. Randy said no and walked out of the room, leaving Kara and Victoria to make the decision. He did make it through, although I don’t know why.

The next contestant to break my heart was Justin, a young man who battled cancer and won. His look and voice were awesome. The last girl on the show was a younger girl with a powerful voice. She surprised everyone with her vocal ability.

All in all, 32 golden tickets were given out in Boston. I saw a couple of true contenders in the 32. If this is the way the season is going to go, we are in for one heck of a battle.
