American Idol (8:00 p.m. EST, FOX)

It’s that time of year again—time for American Idol to take over television. This season premieres tonight with my favorite part of the program: the initial auditions. This is when we get to see the good, the bad, and the ugly, which inevitably leads to tons of laughs. The 9^th season (can you believe it’s the 9^th season?!) kicks off with auditions in Boston. An extra perk is that Ellen DeGeneres joins the panel of judges, replacing Paula Abdul, who I always thought was too nice anyway.

Scrubs (9:00 p.m. EST, ABC)

On tonight’s new episode of scrubs, Elliot (Sarah Chalke) and JD (Zach Braff) face the reality of being parents. Did I miss something? I thought JD left the show….interesting.

Also, Lucy (Kerry Bishe) struggles with coming to terms with the risks involved in operating on real people. That’s what you get for wanting to be a doctor, Lucy.

Paranormal State (10:00 p.m. EST, A&E)

If you love the supernatural like I do, then you’ll undoubtedly get addicted to this show. This show features a team of ghost hunters who seek out interactions with the spiritual world. On tonight’s episode, the team checks out the former West Virginia State Penitentiary in West Virginia, which is supposedly haunted. I’m not sure which would freak me out more: being in an abandoned prison or the ghosts. Because prisons just freak me out.
