Conan_OBrien_300x300There was a ton of speculation yesterday over whether Jay Leno’s show would be cancelled.  NBC issued a statement that really didn’t confirm or deny the rumor, just said the show was going to be improved.  No one was more surprised than Leno who made comments on his own show by jokingly saying that he and Kevin (the leader of his house band) may go travelling.  “I hear FOX is nice this time of year.”

Today we wake up to the news that NBC executives have pulled both Conan O’Brien and Jay Leno in to tell them of the changes.  Apparently, Jay Leno’s show will be going on hiatus come February 1.  According to TMZ, after the Olympics take place Leno will take back his 11:30 p.m. time slot but what happens to O’Brien is more up in the air.  Speculation is that Leno’s show will be only half an hour in length and O’Brien will be on after that, but the other option is Leno will take over The Tonight Show completely and Conan will be told goodbye.  I reported a while back that NBC was considering replacing O’Brien with Jerry Seinfeld and while (thank goodness) that doesn’t seem to be the case, it does look like poor Conan will be tossed out on his behind.

If Conan O’Brien gets pushed back, that means Jimmy Fallon’s show will be pushed back to 1 a.m. (if you remember, Fallon took over for O’Brien when he left his show to replace Leno who left The Tonight Show).  Honestly, this all sounds like one incredible hot mess and would be easily resolved if  Leno was just axed, but Jay Leno’s show has been getting better ratings than O’Brien’s.

My suggestion to you all?  If you don’t want to see Conan O’Brien go the way of the DoDo bird, watch his show.  Boost his ratings.  It may make a difference.
