I admire Bear Grylls. He’s done some pretty extreme things on his Discovery series, Man vs. Wild, demonstrating survival techniques in dire circumstances. I’ve seen him do things that were I stranded in the swamps or desert, I’d not only never think of doing, but wouldn’t, even if I did think of it.

For example, I’d probably choose a painful dose of death by dehydration before I’d ever consider giving myself an enema in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Not Bear Grylls.

Stranded on a raft in the middle of the ocean, he collected rainwater, but it was full of bird droppings. Drinking it would most likely dehydrate you more than doing without, because you’d probably vomit. Under such extreme circumstances, however, hydration is a necessity if you want to survive. In order to hydrate himself as a last resort, Grylls hooked the bird-poo water to a tube and gave himself an enema. Grylls noted that the colon would absorb the water and rehydrate the body, but I strongly advise you don’t try this at home. Well, unless you have to, but even then…

I also don’t recommend watching this at work. Not because it contains graphic content, but because you’ll probably vomit. I guess that could actually be a good thing. You might get to go home from the office early.
