Jennifer_Lopez_NYE_300x300Last night I watched Dick Clark’s Rockin New Year’s Eve with Ryan Seacrest and Billboard’s New Year’s Eve Live simultaneously.  Oh yeah, I’m that good (just kidding).  Is there a difference in shows?  Besides length, not really.

Dick Clark’s Rockin New Year’s Eve with Ryan Seacrest, besides having the longest special title in all of history (don’t cite me!) was also the longer show of the two.  The show went until 2:11 a.m. this morning after starting at 10 p.m. last night with only a half hour break at 11 p.m. for the nightly news.  Dick Clark himself didn’t show up until 11:30 p.m., so Ryan Seacrest hosted for the most part.  He had correspondents Melissa Rycroft (you may know her from Good Morning America and The Bachelor) in Times Square and Fergie (of the Black Eyed Peas) in Las Vegas help him co-host as musical guests like Daughtry, Jennifer Lopez (who showed off her new figure in a very revealing full-body suit), the Black Eyed Peas, Robert Thicke, Selena Gomes, Oranthi, Carrie Hilson, Colbie Caillat, and Justin Bieber performed.

Billboard’s New Year’s Eve Livewas similar in that it had many musical performances but only ran from 11 p.m.

to 12:30 a.m.  It also seemed like they folks over at Billboard couldn’t get all of the guests they wanted so they decided to re-air some of the performances of musical guests from years’ past (like Britney Spears, Shania Twain, and Beyonce).  They show was hosted by Carmen Electra and comedian Frank Caliendo stepped in as correspondent while Eva Longoria Parker made a few special guest appearances.  Sean Kingston performed (over and over again) along with American Idol alums Kris Allen and Allison Iraheta.  No matter which show you watched, American Idol still seemed to get you (Chris Daughtry of Daughtry is an American Idol alum too if you didn’t know).

Honestly, I’d never heard of half of these people until they started singing and even then I couldn’t place a few.  Maybe I’m not as in touch with pop music as I should be.  If I had to choose which show I’d rather watch, it would have to be Dick Clark’s special, mainly because they used all live performances as opposed to digging up old shows.  Clark’s show is a staple really (he’s been doing this for 37 years) and even the stroke that he had in 2004 hasn’t stopped his spirit.  All in all, I feel it was the better special.  Plus, I really like Jennifer Lopez.
