More parades! I just love them! After being up all night with Ryan Seacrest (the new host of Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve), you’re not going to be awake for parades, right? Wrong!
As most of our football fans know, the Tournament of Roses takes place on New Year’s Day. The Rose Parade takes place before the football games even start with the parade hitting ABC at 11:00 a.m.
This year’s parade is looking to be quite entertaining. Unlike many other parades, the Rose Parade doesn’t focus on having many celebrity acts but focuses more on the spirit of competition with its floats, marching bands, and equestrians. Any organization or company can enter themselves into the float category, but the committee suggests doing so 9-12 months in advance.
“A Cut Above The Rest” is the Rose Parade’s theme this year and the Grand Marshal sure does exemplify that statement. Captain Chesley B.
“Sully” Sullenberger III will preside over this year’s entertainment. You may know this captain from his emergency landing of US Airways Flight 1549 in the Hudson River after the engines lost thrust during a bird strike.
The Rose Parade’s not the only televised parade on New Year’s Day, but I couldn’t find any other that was nationally televised, unfortunately. Celebrate the new decade with the Rose Parade!
