Colbert_ChristmasMerry Christmas everyone!  I think I just watched the most hilarious Christmas special ever created and it put me more of a Christmas spirit than if I watched A Charlie Brown Christmas and The Grinch back to back.

Stephen Colbert’s kind of comedy is fantastic to me.  Not only does he lampoon conservatives while acting as one, but he also manages to tease liberals at the same time.  No one is safe, which honestly makes me respect him more.  His Christmas special, even though it focused on the holiday, was no different from the humor of his show.

The story revolves around Colbert in his cabin in the woods.  He’s trapped there because of a bear outside and can’t help Elvis Costello put together a Christmas special at his studio in New York.  While he’s trapped a few visitors come to call.  First to show up at his door is country music star Toby Keith who’s hunting deer for stocking stuffers.  He sings a song about how Christmas is under attack and how he’ll rectify that with explosions.  I never knew Toby Keith could laugh at himself like he did, but kudos to him!

Second to show was Willie Nelson who came as the fourth wise man at the manger scene.  His gift was not like the other kings, but instead gave holiday weed in a song only Willie Nelson could get away with.  Jon Stewart came to visit to try and convert Colbert to Judaism so he could celebrate Hanukkah with him.  Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert have lovely singing voices!

John Legend came to sing about nutmeg (the spice), folk singer Feist posed as an angel and Elvis Costello got magically transported from New York to Colbert’s cabin… where he got eaten by the bear outside.  George Wendt played Santa Claus, beat the bear, saved Costello and saved Christmas for all.

My husband started watching to find out why I was laughing so hard.  If you can find A Stephen Colbert Christmas: The Greatest Gift of All on DVD, buy it.  We’ve got it embedded below until the 30th. Watch it.  Laugh hard.
