The number four most viewed YouTube video of 2009 is not a big surprise, in fact, with so many teen fans dominating the Internet and the Twilight Saga scene, I’m actually surprised the trailer for New Moon is not the number one most watched video of the year.

The second installment in the Twilight phenomenon introduces Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner) to the plot, a young werewolf who befriends Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) and tries to alleviate the aching torment of Edward Cullen’s absence. Like a breath administered to a dying patient, Jacob lifts Bella out of her darkness, but the two of them start experimenting with danger, an act that makes Bella feel close to Edward. When Edward’s psychic sister sees an image of Bella dead, Edward sets out to destroy himself, and Bella drops Jacob like a hot potato to save him. Teenage girls; they’re so fickle.

Regardless of what you think of Stephenie Meyer and the Twilight series, there’s no denying their combined popularity. The official New Moon trailer has been viewed more than 23 million times and has garnered over 72,000 comments since it was first released in June of 2009. With numbers like that, I can only imagine what the trailer for Eclipse, which is set to hit theatres in June 2010, will score when it hits the net.
