I was given the unbelievable opportunity to interview three of the roommates on The Real World DC. My Second interview was with Mike. He is a self proclaimed Christian jock, even though some of his choices are not as Christian as his family would like. Mike was great fun to talk with. He had a lot of insight into the show and a lot of opinions about his roommates.
Mike is a college student from North Denver, Colorado. Mike didn’t really want to try out for The Real World. A buddy of his was going to the open auditions, and needed some moral support. He initially said no, but when free lunch was thrown in, Mike jumped in the car and said, “Let’s go!” Of Course, Mike makes the show and the friend is left with the lunch bill.
Mike did assure me that there was no anger or jealousy issues and that they are still good friends. Mike just came out of a long relationship and is happily single.
Mike had never seen an episode of The Real World, so he went on YouTube to check it out. He said, “After watching the episodes and knowing there will be cameras on you, I was very nervous about going on the show, but once I was there I loved it.” Mike love’s everything about DC: the places, people and the mix of work and play. Mike was invited back to DC for a premiere party at one of the clubs there. However, he still has some secrets, as he wouldn’t divulge the name of the club.
Mike went into DC with dreams of being an environmentalist. He did a project in college helping companies in the Denver area “Go Green” and discovered a passion for topic. While in DC he also discovered another passion, helping fight for the right of gay and lesbians to marry. Mike also discovered friendship in the house with unlikely people. He said is closest guy friend was Andrew, which surprised him, because when he first met Andrew he thought he dress funny and was just weird. He also said. “My least favorite person would have to be Ashley. We just clashed personalities a lot.”
Mike’s description of the house was a metaphor, “It’s like when you get a box of Crayons and they are all different colors. Then you leave them in a hot car and they melt into one big crayon. You can’t actually tell what color the original crayon was.” Mike also gave so advice to the viewers. He said we should sit down and hold on, everything is unexpected and not to judge anyone until around episode seven. He said everyone changes during the season.
I really enjoyed my time with Mike. He was very open and friendly. I can’t wait to see the show to see if he is going to be the same guy on camera as he was on the phone. The show premieres on MTV December 30th.
