NBC’s circling the drain and they’re trying to take down as many people as they can in order to pull themselves out.
Conan O’Brien stepped up to the plate when NBC fired Jay Leno from The Tonight Show. Then NBC gave Jay his own show before The Tonight Show which pulls in slim to none ratings. There’s no lead for Conan O’Brien to work with and now The Tonight Show’s ratings are slipping down faster than ever.
There’s talk of replacing O’Brien. Not talk of kicking Leno out of his spot because of course that would just be ludicrous (can you feel the sarcasm dripping off of every word) but talk of replacing O’Brien with Jerry Seinfeld. Yes, you heard me. Jerry Seinfeld. Seinfeld had an excellent run on NBC with his comedy show and is beloved in the eyes of the executives (or is it just dollar signs in their eyes?). A source for AOL’s Popeater says after having the lowest ratings in 15 years, “They would be idiots to not be having the replacement conversation.”
Of course O’Brien’s people are denying the whole thing, stating that Conan is the host of The Tonight Show period. Honestly, I can’t see how changing Conan O’Brien out of his spot will make anything better nor do I see Jerry Seinfeld making an excellent talk show host.
