The story begins with a grandfather telling his grandchildren, who are all excited about the presents they are getting from Santa, a tale about a little boy named Jimmy Creek.
Jimmy Creek was a naughty, spoiled, rotten little boy who had more toys than anyone could ever dream of. He cries and whines when he doesn’t get his way and his parents say that he’s not getting a single toy from them ever again. He decides in a stroke of brilliance to ask Santa for the toys her wants. He writes a list of all the toys he could ever dream of and send the list off to Santa.
Santa thinks that the list has to be from a town. No kid could ever want this many toys! Santa and his elves find the little swamp town of Jimmy Creek and take all the toys on the list to the children of that town. Jimmy Creek (the boy) is furious until he sees how happy these children are on the television. His heart goes out to them and he realizes it’s not the getting that’s important, it’s the giving.
Santa goes to Jimmy and tells him what a wonderful thing he’s done. Santa then offers Jimmy a helper position handing out toys which he takes and does until he’s too big to fit in the sleigh. The grandchildren are no longer super excited about what they’re getting from Santa, they just want to give now. We end seeing the grandfather’s mailbox which is marked “J. Creek.”
This touching story was created by the Hanna-Barbera company in 1993 and is narrated by Dick Van Dyke. It’s based on a poem called “Jimmy Creek” by Charmaine Severson. You can still catch this classic on Boomerang!
