The sixth season of LOST is still about two months away but the fandom is still rabid as ever. On Tuesday, December 15, a long LOST-themed ARG (that’s Alternative Reality Game) finally came to a close at Gallery 1988 in Los Angeles, California. There, show producers, writers and more joined hoards of rabid fans for a gallery opening featuring the art of damoncarltonandapolarbear.com.
Um, what?
Well, long story short at San Diego Comic Con this year comedian Paul Scheer (he of VH1′s Best Week Ever) announced a new game where every week or so, fans could go to damoncarltonandapolarbear.com (named after the two show runners), follow some clues and then discover a URL that lead them to a limited edition piece of LOST art.
These limited pieces quickly became very coveted, many of them selling out in seconds and demanding prices in the hundreds of dollars on eBay.com. (For a more complete description of the game, check out Doc Jensen’s column over at EW.com.)
Fifteen prints have been revealed and sold out over the Fall, all leading up to number 16, which was revealed at Gallery 1988 on Tuesday (You can see it on the right). Also, all of the prints would be in the same place for the first time ever along with several other original commissioned works.
Fans, myself included, lined up for hours beforehand for a chance to get into the gallery early. While waiting, Scheer dropped by offering free goodies to some of the fans at the front of the line and then Damon and Carlton themselves even showed up to sign autographs and stuff. They also dropped clues to the URL of the 16th print (highlighted in signed scripts from LOST handed out to certain fans).
Finally, when the gallery opened, several hundred people waited patiently to get inside. On display for the first time was the 16th print by artist Tyler Stout which is supposed to have two clues to the sixth season. So far, I have no idea what they are, but maybe you can figure it out?
The gallery show is open until December 24. Check back tomorrow for our EXCLUSIVE gallery of images from the event.
The sixth season of LOST premieres on February 2.
