Gordon Ramsay’s Cookalong Live proved to America that a three course meal can be prepared in one hour. Gordon had people from around the country cooking along with him. Some of these people included Whoopi Goldberg, her daughter Alex, and a couple of military wives. Cedric the Entertainer, Alyson Hannigan and Leeann Rimes also cooked in the studio with him.
Gordon Ramsay, from the shows Hell’s Kitchen and Kitchen Nightmares, started with Cedric cooking an angel hair pasta with shrimp and chili peppers. Gordon was working so fast that Cedric was always two steps behind. Then Cedric decides to drink some of the white wine out of the bottle. Alyson could not get anything right but in the end everyone finished their pasta and it looked great. When he checked on Whoopi and Alex, they where at each other throats about who got to do what.
Alyson was up next to help Gordon cook the main course. The main course was Steak Diane, peas and potatoes. Gordon hit the streets asking people what Steak Diane was.
No one had any idea except for Jay Leno. Alyson was horrendous trying to keep up with Gordon. For this dish you have to flambé. A squad of firemen were brought in, just in case. Alyson kept losing food out of her pans. The flambé went very well, except for the military wives. They didn’t burn anything, but they would not set the pan down. I thought Gordon was going to have a heart attack yelling at them.
Leeann Rimes was up next to help with dessert. To prove how easy this dessert is Gordon went to an elementary school to teach a class of kids how to make it. The kids were good at first, then they lost control and the mess was everywhere. Gordon was in a corner holding his knees and shaking. After all those seasons on Hell Kitchen breaking aspiring chefs down to sobbing piles of uselessness, he finally gets a little taste of what it’s like.
The dessert was tiramisu. It looked so easy I think I may make it for Christmas dinner. Everyone handled this task with style and they finished a three course meal in less than one hour. For the recipes from the show, check out the cookalong website.
