Fat Drink 300x300New York City Health Department unleashed a rather hideous video campaign to deter New Yorkers from guzzling down soda and other sugary drinks. Health studies over the last few years have shown that drinking just one glass of soda per day can lead to an extra ten pounds of weight gain per years. Yikes! With two million New Yorkers slamming back at least one soft drink per day, that’s a lot of extra weight at the end of the year.

To hit the point home, the issued a rather stark commercial featuring a man pouring a can of pure fat into a glass, which then splatters onto his face when he lifts to drink from it. The campaign recommends foregoing the soft drinks and reaching for a glass of water or nonfat milk instead.

Thousands of Americans are diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes and morbid obesity every day, as a result of poor eating and unhealthy lifestyle habits.

Perhaps targeting soft drink companies with a heavy blow is just one strategy to get people thinking healthy. I loathe to think of the commercial they come up with to drive us away from fast food joints like Burger King and McDonald’s.

After watching the fat glop into that glass, I have to say I’m feeling a little queasy myself. Maybe I’ll have some unsweetened green tea, or better yet, some nice, clean water.
