Yabba Dabba Do and a Bah Humbug to you, or so says Fred Flintstone in A Flintstone’s Christmas Carol. When Bedrock decides to put on a holiday performance of A Christmas Carol.
In spirit of Charles Dickens‘ famous holiday novella, crotchety old Fred Flintstone scores the role of Ebenezer Scrooge in the local production. Anyone who’s ever seen the Flintstones knows what happens when something big happens to Fred. It completely goes to his head, and the only thing different about this is that it takes place during the holidays.
All wrapped up in learning his lines for the big performance, Fred starts to ignore his family. He forgets to pick up Pebbles at daycare, waits until the last minute to buy their Christmas gifts and even starts fantasizing about kissing Maggie, the beautiful young woman who plays Scrooge’s love interest in the play.
An infuriated Wilma has to snap Fred out of his own ego trip in order to save Christmas, so when Maggie gets sick, Wilma steps in to play her part.
Like the bumbling blowhard he is, Fred accidentally reveals his secret infatuation with Maggie to Wilma, who refuses to speak to him afterward.
In light of realizing he could potentially lose his family, Fred discovers the true meaning of Christmas, and humbled, he makes it up to his family by apologizing.
Produced by Hannah-Barbera in 1994, this fifteen year old family favorite can hardly be considered a classic yet, but with kids gathering around the television to enjoy it every year, it’s only a matter of time before this holiday special falls into rank among the growing collection of treasured holiday specials.
