Since it was first announced that former Alaska Governor, Sarah Palin, would run as vice presidential candidate with Republican candidate John McCain in the 2008 election, Palin has been a comedian’s treasure, providing NBC with a goody bag of humorous fodder for more than a year.
William Shatner has been making regular appearances on the Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien, mocking the speeches, Twitterfeed and autobiography of Sarah Palin, reading passages from them like beat poetry since mid-summer. Friday night, December 11, 2009, Palin surprised the Tonight Show studio audience when she took the stage and gave Shatner a taste of his own medicine.
As you watch this video, take note the look on Shatner’s face while she reads her favorite excerpts from “Up ‘Till Now,” his 2008 autobiography. I can’t tell if he’s so touched he’s going to cry, or if she’s actually hurting his feelings, as we all know Shatner’s a sensitive enigma. Either way, it’s always nice to see William Shatner stunned speechless, and the audience went wild when the two of them exited stage right hand-in-hand.
While Palin has been on the critical end in the press this last year, one thing can be said for her: she has a good sense of humor. She’s certainly not afraid to laugh at herself, which is more than can be said for most politicians.
