Trinity_Killer_300x300So, at the last episode’s end, Arthur Mitchell (John Lithgow) discovered Dexter’s (Michael C. Hall) true identity. What does Arthur want? He just wants Dexter out of his life. But, as those of us who know Dexter are well aware, that’s simply not going to happen.

As soon as Arthur’s out of the building, Dexter’s on his path, trademark needle in hand. However, after committing a hit-and-run in busy Miami traffic, Dexter finds himself arrested and being hauled away…while Trinity is passed out in the back of his van.

Of course, Arthur is gone when Dexter is released, and the Trinity Killer is on the rampage. He looks up Dexter’s address in the phone book and follows it to Dexter’s old apartment, now Deb’s new digs.

Imagine Arthur’s frustration when he realizes he’s not in the right place. I have to admit that I laughed—sometimes Arthur looks so silly when he’s upset.

Meanwhile, Miami Homicide is getting closer to figuring out who the Trinity Killer is. They discover the fourth link in Arthur’s kill cycles, and when Deb interviews Scott Smith (the missing boy who Arthur kidnapped), he remembers the logo that was on Arthur’s van: the logo for Four Walls. So now the cops know Trinity’s true identity, and Dexter’s going to have to work super hard to get to Arthur before the cops do.

Dexter gets a preview to how life could be for Rita and the kids as he watches Arthur’s family sobbing, walking towards police car. You just can’t help but feel sorry for them—how would you react to finding out that your dad or husband was a serial killer?

In order to get her mind off of watching Christine (Courtney Ford) kill herself, Deb (Jennifer Carpenter) meets up with one of her dad’s informants to dig up some more dirt on Dad. The informant who has info brings Deb to Laura Moser’s house. If you remember correctly, this is where the Ice Truck Killer brought Deb. Deb is getting closer and closer to discovering Dexter’s true identity: son of Laura Moser, brother of Ice Truck Killer.

Deb sees the name “Dexter” in an article about Laura Moser and puts two and two together. An old friend of her dad’s confirms Deb’s suspicions. Deb tells Dexter about what she found out, as she is under the impression that he knows nothing about it. Their exchange was extremely touching. I have to admit that I think Jennifer Carpenter’s acting has been simply incredible the past few episodes.

Back to Arthur and Dexter. Dexter finally gets Arthur on his table, pictures of his victims surrounding him, and it’s the moment we’ve all been waiting for. I was a little disappointed by their last conversation. I don’t know what I was expecting, but I expected it to be more disturbing than it was. I was still very satisfied when Dexter hit Arthur with the hammer, though.

But it was all rectified by the last few minutes of the episode. Apparently, Arthur made a stop at Dexter’s residence before getting caught. The moment that Dexter finds Rita (Julie Benz) in the bathtub filled with blood was shocking…I actually felt nauseous. And the fact that baby Harrison is sitting in a pool of Rita’s blood is all the more disturbing.

Good job, Dexter. You finished up this season beautifully.
