Neil Patrick Harris and the CBS comedy, How I Met Your Mother are getting a lot of buzz this week for their raunchy meshing of lines from the show with classic kids’ holiday special, Frosty the Snowman in Frosty the Inappropriate Snowman. The commercial was a CBS attempt to promote both How I Met Your Mother and this year’s holiday airing of Frosty the Snowman, but not everyone finds this humorous stab at the Rankin/Bass children’s classic funny.
In the video, Frosty talks about his porn collection, bull-whips, lethal injection, strip clubs and a host of other inappropriate topics that have some viewers and critics questioning the network’s advertising integrity. While many people find the video funny, many critics are torn over its appropriateness .
CBS has made no comment, as of yet, over the critical reception of the video, and the mixture of commentary across the board has it hanging between hilarious and completely uncalled for.
Neil Patrick Harris, who once charmed America as the adorable Doogie Howser M.D., has become somewhat famous for bawdy comedy over the last few years, especially when appearing as a parody of himself in the Harold and Kumar films.
After watching it myself this morning, I can’t deny I stifled a chuckle or two, as the lines seemed to flow effortlessly into the animation, but I will never be able to look at old Frosty the same way again. It is also not the type of thing I’d want my kid watching, which seems to fall in line with wide scale parental opinion. If you haven’t seen it yet, be sure to take a minute to check it out and weigh in with the masses. Inappropriate or ROFL? You decide.

This is just wrong. Why would they want to tarnish the reputation of one of America's greatest classic Christmas shows. I'm very disturbed by this.

I actually found it funny as hell, but I never really like Frosty the Snowman. If they did it to something I enjoyed, perhaps I would have felt more strongly about it. But then again, I enjoyed the reimaging of the Charlie Brown Christmas special that was just as crass as well, so perhaps I just have lower standards.

Wow. They took something from our youth and turned it into something for our adulthood. It's weird, twisted and, if not originally a children's show, something that would have given South Park a run for it's money. I can only hope they at least aired it a later hour to avoid a lot of exposure to children, but then again, they likely hear/see worse daily at school. If it were an actual show, and I had the time, I'd likely watch it just to see if they at least did a good job on it.
